We are very happy to present you with our newest collaboration with celebrated French Tiki artist and sculptor, “Baï”! Here we offer up for your collection, Re”Don”do. Hand-sculpted by Baï, we think this mug is quite a treasure for the Tiki community.
Historical significance and importance? This mug has it! Here’s what our old friend Sven Kirsten, author of “The Book of Tiki”, “Tiki Pop” and “Tiki Modern” has to lend with regards to the inspiration for this wonderful mug…
“The Tiki Apartments in Redondo Beach are among the most iconic structures of the Tiki movement. It was (and still is!) the perfect marriage of mid-century modernism and primitive art. The Tiki statues performing the herculean task of holding up the yellow and gold tiled box were carved by beach town resident Mike Gildea, in his unmistakable "cartoon meets modern" style. It is no wonder that contemporary artist "Baï" was inspired by them, and she had to change very little to transform it into a beautiful ceramic homage to this still extant Tiki temple”. – Sven Kirsten
Glazed in a vintage-inspired mottled satin brown with a rich coral interior and the iconic, stylized Tiki lettering on the reverse in a rich coral, Re"Don"do measures 7 3/8” in height and has a liquid capacity of 12 oz.
Side note: The lettering of this iconic apartment building served as the inspiration for our logo. We wanted to pay tribute to the amazing style of the script, but give it our own, unique twist.
